Taiwanese director Xie Yang (Maiden Rose) brings a unique tale of displacement and life-affirming hope to the screen in My Rice Noodle Shop. Usual Hong Kong comedienne Carol "Dodo" Cheng is Rong Zhang, the owner of a Taipei noodle shop whose life has been an up-and-down rollercoaster that stretches from the 1950s to the 1970s. Flashbacks detail the rise and fall of Rong's noodle house from popular establishment to simple noodle cafe, but behind that story is the larger one of the Taiwanese people's migration from China to Taiwan in the wake of the Communist China's birth, and the rise to power of Mao Zedong. Various characters are patrons at Rong's shop, and their experiences as Taiwanese people - and simply people - bring color and life to this small noodle shop. A lightly dramatic and entertaining motion picture infused with warm humanity, My Rice Noodle Shop is a wonderful cross-section of the lives and histories of a few distinct, well-drawn Taiwanese people.

台北市長春路上的一家米粉店，老闆娘(鄭裕玲)是廣西桂林來的，她爺爺從前在桂林的水東門外花橋頭開了一家「榮記米粉店」，在桂林一帶可是家喻戶曉、遠近知名的。她也因此得了一個「米粉丫頭」的雅號。後來嫁了一個軍人，當了幾年營長太太，不料蘇北一戰把她丈夫打得下落不明，她便隨軍眷撤回台灣，為了生計，開了這米粉店。常來光顧這家米粉店的客人，大多是寅卯糧的小公務員，其中不少是老闆娘的廣西同鄉。

　　在經營這家米粉店過程中，掀起一段一段人離鄉賤的憂愁，在與廣西同鄉的交往中，現實與回憶絲絲相扣，濃郁不散的感情凝聚在米粉店內每一個角落。不同的故事發生於周圍的同鄉身上，令老皮娘百感交雜......過往的辛酸故事，無奈的淹沒在大時代洪流中......
