The film was in competition for the Golden Bear at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival. It received seven nominations at the 51th Golden Horse Film Awards, and won six, namely Best Feature Film. Best New Performer, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing and Best Sound Effects. It has grossed ¥7.68 million at the Chinese box office.

Synopsis :

Ma lost his sight in a childhood accident and now relies on his hearing. His co-workers in a Nanjing massage centre share his fate. With a camera that follows closely as they tentatively feel their way about and a soundtrack that takes note of even the tiniest of noises, this film enters a world of darkness. Lou Ye, who worked with a mixed cast of blind and sighted actors, follows his protagonists through their lives for a while, exploring their desires and dreams, but also sketching the reality of life in modern day China. The film won 6 awards at Golden Horse Awards including Best Feature Film.
