高中生加藤勝（小野大輔 配音）正回家與弟弟慶祝生日，誰料竟在地鐵站遭到殺人犯襲擊，為了救人，加藤勝身中數刀不幸身亡。

當他再度睜開雙眼時，卻發現自己完好無缺地站在位於東京市中心的一個房間裡，眼前是一個黑色的詭異圓球和幾個穿黑色戰鬥服的人︰蕾佳（早見沙織 配音）、西丈一郎（郭智博 配音）和鈴木良一（池田秀一 配音）。他們和加藤勝一樣，都是已死之人。蕾佳說黑色的圓球名叫「GANTZ」，而他們要做的，就是等待圓球下達命令，只要在模擬遊戲裡拿到100分，便可重回人間。就在此時，還一頭霧水的加藤勝突然與其餘3人被傳送到大阪，他們所要面對的，是叫做「滑瓢」的怪物以及一場盛大的百鬼夜行。

究竟加藤勝能否在GANTZ規定的時間內殺掉所有怪物，再次回到弟弟的身邊呢？
